17-year-old boy charged in Huddersfield shooting investigation

A 38-year-old Huddersfield man has also been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder.

A 17-year–old boy has appeared before magistrates charged with attempted murder as enquiries continue into the alleged shooting of a 12-year-old in Deighton.

The 17-year-old, who is from Huddersfield and cannot be named for legal reasons, was charged on Sunday with attempted murder in relation to a firearms discharge at the Northfield Hall Community Centre on Norfolk Avenue, Deighton on the evening of Tuesday March 10, shortly before 7.15pm.

He appeared before the Youth Court session of Leeds Magistrates Court on Monday morning (16/3).

The incident remains under investigation by the Homicide and Major Enquiry Team who continue to urge witnesses to come forward.

In other developments a 38-year-old Huddersfield man was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder on Sunday and is in police custody for questioning.

Four males aged 16,16,16 and 17 who were all arrested last week have been released on bail pending continuing enquiries.

The 12-year-old victim continues to recover from injuries which are not life threatening but potentially life changing.

DCI Vanessa Rolfe of the Homicide and Major Enquiry Team who is leading the investigation, said: “We are continuing to very much appeal for witnesses as we continue our investigation I really would urge anyone who has information who we may not have spoken with to come forwards.

“All reports made to us will be treated and handled sensitively.  Information can also separately be given in complete anonymity to the independent Crimestoppers charity.”
