Batley pub forced to re-close after customer tests positive

The Fox and Hounds only reopened on Saturday.

A pub in Batley is one of at least three establishments around the country having to close their doors again - just days after re-opening.

The Fox and Hounds in Batley only opened up on Saturday following government guidelines after months closed due to the coronavirus pandemic.

However the publican received a call on Monday from a customer who had visited on Saturday saying they'd taken a test after their trip and it had come back positive. The customer said they had no symptoms while at the pub and had no idea they'd contracted the virus.

Like many businesses, the Fox and Hounds had followed guidelines by setting up a one-way system, plastic screens and operating on a reduced capacity of 60 customers.

In a statement on Facebook, the pub said that all staff had now been tested and were awaiting results. They also insisted the pub would be deep-cleaned and would reopen once they were sure it was safe to do so.
