Calderdale's Efforts To Be Best Borough In The North

Excelling in adult fitness but lacking in housing, Calderdale Council work towards being best northern borough

Calderdale look to place sixth out of 20 boroughs in the north according to indicators which span issues including average pay, education, social care and life expectancy.

This was discussed at Calderdale Council’s Cabinet during their meeting this week, where cabinet member Jane Scullion said she was ambitious to become the best borough in the north.

The council was top ranking for adults’ physical activity which she attributed to GPs’ embracing what was really, “good for people’s health”. The borough also ranked highly in terms of life expectancy with older people receiving adult social care long term.

One area where figures are down from the same point last year was building new homes where they ranked 18th, saying they lacked, “places for our children and grandchildren to live”.

In an effort to become the best in the north partnerships with social housing providers are being developed which would unblock the pipeline once the council deliver.
