Elland Company Issue Flash Flooding Warning

We could be set to experience severe rain and thunderstorms over the weekend, leaving West Yorkshire at high risk of flash flooding.

An Elland company are warning West Yorkshire could be at risk of flash flooding after temperatures have soared for weeks.

The Flood Company say we could be set to experience severe rain and thunderstorms over the weekend, leaving the country at high risk of flash flooding.

James Ruddiman, from The Flood Company, said: "Following extended periods of warm weather, flooding can be far from people's minds but the weather we have been experiencing over the last month has left the ground hard and therefore unable to absorb water.

"This means that heavy, extreme downpours over a short period can create flash flooding which can be devasting for residents and commercial property owners."

Flash flooding could become a much bigger problem across West Yorkshire in the coming years; according to a study from the Met Office, Yorkshire is heading towards more extreme weather, with a huge increase in rainfall and flash flooding.

The report states that there will be significant changes in rainfalls patterns across northern England and Scotland by 2100, with up to 10-35% increase in average rainfall for some parts in the winter months.
