Roof on Town Hall Street pool \"a significant danger\"
Elland Pool has closed its doors to swimmers.
A detailed survey has found severe corrosion in the iron roof supports - making the structure unstable.
The report says the damage presents "a significant danger to staff and the public". Further assessments need to be made before the pool's future can be decided.
Calderdale Council’s Cabinet Member for Communities Pauline Nash, says that while the news is disappointing, officers were left with little choice.
"The condition of the roof supports is such that, to keep the pool open would be putting the public and our staff in danger. The safety of the public is paramount and the council is not prepared to take any risks on this issue.”
She said officers and councillors would be discussing what further action should be taken.
