Gang armed with hammers rob security guards outside Bradford shop

They got away with thousands of pounds in the robbery at Tesco Express on Bolton Road this afternoon.

A gang of robbers armed with hammers have stole thousands of pounds from security guards outside a Tesco Express in Bradford earlier today.

Police were called at around 1.10pm  to reports of male suspects approaching a G4S van on Bolton Road, armed with hammers and stealing money from the guards.

There was an altercation between the driver and the suspects; the victim was pushed into the van and gravel thrown at him before the suspects fled the scene in a car.

The security box containing several thousand pounds, and also a hammer was recovered nearby by officers.

A 23-year-old man was arrested nearby, in connection with the incident and remains in police custody.

Two other suspects fled the scene – they are described as Asian males, wearing dark top and grey trousers.

Officers are appealing for information in connection with the incident, in particular a white 4x4, which was sighted in the nearby area.

Enquiries are ongoing including examination of CCTV.
