West Yorkshire Gears Up For 'Mad Friday'

Halifax Street Angels

Street Angels get ready for Christmas party goers.

Police and Ambulance crews across West Yorkshire are gearing up for their busiest night of the year later on what's known each year as 'Mad Friday'.

Extra staff have been put on stand-by to deal with late night revellers enjoying Christmas parties.

On the same night last year, requests for ambulances in the UK went up by 67%.

Street Angels work in many cities and towns in our region giving a helping hand to party goers, as well as people who may have had a bit too much to drink.

Paul Blakey, from Halifax Street Angels said: "'Mad Friday' is usually good fun, people obviously finish work at 3,4 5 o'clock and start drinking, so some of the problems that we usually see at 1 or 2 o'clock [in the morning], happen a lot earlier."

"The message is go and have a great evening out, but stay safe."
