West Yorkshire Lawyers Prepare For 'Divorce Day' Enquiries Surge

Today is the day when there's typically a spike in the number of people wanting to break up.

Lawyers in West Yorkshire are preparing to deal with a flood of enquiries about divorce proceedings today, on what's been dubbed 'Divorce Day'.

It falls on the first Monday of each new year and is the day when there's typically a spike in people contacting solicitors about breaking up their marriage,

But despite this, some law firms in our area have told us they've already had a number of enquiries since the festive break.

Experts say the reason for the surge at this time of year is because people often spend a lot of time with their families over Christmas when long running tensions can boil over, and if they're not happy with their marriage, they see the new year for an opportunity for a new start.

Government figures have revealed that 13 people even used a new online service to file for divorce on Christmas Day itself.

We've been speaking to a solicitor from a West Yorkshire law firm which specialises in family cases, to find out more about 'Divorce Day' and what people who are considering a divorce can do.
