Woman dies after being knocked down by lorry in Heckmondwike

It happened as the 69 year old was crossing the road on Westgate on Wednesday morning.

Police say a woman has died after being knocked down by a lorry in Heckmondwike.

The collision happened at around 11.05am on Wednesday morning on Westgate in the town.

A DAF lorry hit the 69 year old woman as she was crossing the road.

The HGV had been turning right from Westgate onto Market Street when the collision happened.

Emergency services attended but the woman was pronounced to have died at the scene.

Sergeant Martyn Burns of the Major Collision Enquiry Team, said:

“We are continuing to investigate this very serious collision which has sadly resulted in the death of the pedestrian involved.

“We would very much like to speak to anyone who saw or has dashcam footage of the collision or the lorry in the moments before it occurred.
